The Georgian Orthodox Church discussed the situation in Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region with a delegation from the Moscow Patriarchate

Representatives of the Georgian Orthodox Church held important talks with a delegation from the Moscow Patriarchate, during which the situation in Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region was the central topic of discussion. The parties recognized the critical importance of resolving church-related issues in these territories for the normalization of relations between the two nations.

During the discussion, the parties emphasized the need to find constructive ways to resolve existing problems. Despite the seriousness of the topic, church representatives expressed cautious optimism, noting that the dialogue opens up opportunities for the gradual improvement of church life in these regions and the strengthening of ties with local Orthodox communities. The meeting participants also discussed the contribution of former Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II to the development of the Church.

As a reminder, on September 30, 2026, a meeting took place at the Patriarchal Residence in Georgia between Catholicos-Patriarch Shio III of All Georgia and an official delegation from the Moscow Patriarchate.
