Court sent UOC Metropolitan Ioasaph (Guben) under night house arrest

The court in Kropyvnytskyi sent Metropolitan of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Ioasaph (Guben) under night house arrest on suspicion of inciting hatred. This is reported by the site cbn.com.ua.

The prosecutor of the Kirovohrad prosecutor’s office, Sergei Ozhog, asked in court to send the suspect under round-the-clock house arrest at the place of registration in the city of Kropyvnytskyi, but with the opportunity to visit medical facilities. The prosecutor noted the risks of the suspect’s escape, pressure on witnesses, destruction or distortion of physical evidence.

The suspect’s lawyer Sergei Galushko objected to the satisfaction of the petition, noting the groundlessness of the risks. According to him, his client is cooperating with the investigation and does not intend to hide.

He also noted that Bishop Ioasaph is a lonely man without relatives and he will not be able to provide for his existence in the event of round-the-clock house arrest.

The court partially granted the petition of the investigation and announced to Metropolitan Ioasaph a night house arrest until January 30.
