Verkhovna Rada Committee Supports Law on Banning the UOC

The Verkhovna Rada Committee for Humanitarian and Information Policy has recommended that parliament adopt in the second reading and in general the draft law No 8371 aimed at banning the activities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. About it in Facebook member of the Committee Volodymyr Vyatrovych.

«Just now the Committee on humanitarian and information policy of the Verkhovna Rada unanimously recommended to the Parliament to support in the second reading and as a whole the bill 8371, which should put an end to the activities of the Russian Church in Ukraine. The text of the bill has become much stronger compared to the government version supported as a basis. The Russian Orthodox Church should be banned by law, and the activities of all religious organizations that are affiliated with it will be terminated by a clear procedure that will include research, an order to implement the law and a court injunction», — Vyatrovych wrote.

In addition, according to the MP, by adopting the law, the state will simplify the procedure for expropriation of church property and re-registration of religious communities from the UOC to the OCU.

«The ROC and its affiliated structures will not be able to use state and communal property, and the transition of communities to the Ukrainian local Orthodox Church will be greatly simplified», — summarized the Deputy.

We shall remind you that earlier we reported that the co-chairman of the European Solidarity faction, Artur Gerasimov, demanded that the law No. 8371 aimed at banning the activities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church be urgently submitted to parliament for consideration.
