“We hope that the secular authorities of Ukraine will respect all human rights,” - Primate of the OCA

The Primate of the Orthodox Church of America, Archbishop Tikhon of Washington, Metropolitan of All America and Canada, has expressed hope that the Ukrainian authorities will adhere to the rule of law, respecting the rights of Ukrainian citizens. He said this during a sermon in the Transfiguration monastery of Bancheny, reports the official website of the UOC.
“We reaffirm the right, and not only the right, but also the duty of your country, Ukraine, to defend itself from unjustified aggression, and currently from the aggression that the people are experiencing from the war. We would also like to draw attention to the fact that we hope that the civil authorities of Ukraine will respect all human rights, all freedoms and norms of international law,” – Metropolitan Tikhon noted.
In addition, the First Hierarch expressed the support of the entire fullness of the Orthodox Church of America for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
“We want to express our love for Your Beatitude, your God-given Church, as well as our love for all Ukrainian people who are currently fighting for their land, for their independence. Together with my delegation, we bring you not only our presence, but also the prayers and love for you of the entire fullness of the Orthodox Church in America,” – the bishop summarized.
We would like to remind you that on June 1-2, 2024, the Primate of the Orthodox Church of America, Archbishop Tikhon, Metropolitan of Washington, D.C., Metropolitan of All America and Canada, began an official visit to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Metropolitan Tikhon celebrated Divine Services at the Cathedral of the Holy Dukhov Cathedral in Chernivtsi and at the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery in Banchensk in the company of the Primate and hierarchs of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
