OCU supporters seize UOC temple in Cherkasy region

On the night of May 31, 2024, supporters of the OCU, with the assistance of law enforcement officials, seized the Cathedral of the Man-Made Image of the Savior in the city of Korsun-Shevchenkivsky, Cherkasy region. According to the rector of the church, the raiders knocked down the locks on the gate and tore out the iron front door from 12 am to 5 am. They cursed and insulted the parishioners who came to defend the shrine. This was reported by the press service of the Cherkasy Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
“The noise was so loud, so horrible, it was impossible to just watch. People went beyond the limits of human nature. We tried to say something — nothing worked, nothing at all. And so it went on all night. The police were standing all around the perimeter of the church, there were a lot of police, but they were completely inactive. Although our church was alarmed, it did not play any role,” — said Archpriest John Nalapko.
The priest added that after the seizure of the church, the raiders let only supporters of the OCU into the territory. They installed audio speakers on the territory and turned on the music loudly.
As we reported earlier, on May 26, 2024, supporters of the OCU, with the support of the police, seized the church of the Great Martyr Demetrius of Thessalonica in the village of Berezdiv, Khmelnytsky region. The police pushed back the UOC believers who were trying to defend the church and provided access to the doors of the building to the OCU supporters.
