OCU supporters seize another UOC church in Kyiv region

On June 20, 2024, supporters of the OCU, with the support of the police and people in military uniforms, seized the St. George’s Church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the city of Irpin, Kyiv region. This was reported by the Telegram channel Dozor on Pershyi Kozatskyi.
According to Archpriest Alexander Fedorichko, dean of the Irpin District of the Kyiv Eparchy of the UOC, the seizure of the church was led by public figure Sergei Vozny, who before the war was an associate of former MP Ilya Kiva, who was killed in early 2024 in Moscow. Mayor Oleksandr Markushyn oversaw the transfer of the church. Members of the local community’s voluntary paramilitary group were also involved.
It is worth noting that the seizure of St. George’s Church of the UOC in Irpin is not the first case. Earlier, we reported that the Holy Trinity Church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which was taken away from the UOC community on October 25, 2023, in favor of the OCU, is now closed to the public.
