Bulgarian Orthodox Church condemned blasphemy at the opening of the 2024 Olympics

The Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church has condemned a blasphemous performance organized at the opening of the 2024 Olympics in Paris. The Bulgarian Patriarchate called it “vulgarity and ideological tastelessness”. This is reported by the official website of the BOC.

“A few days ago, the entire Christian world was embarrassed, seduced and offended by the performance at the opening of the XXXIII Summer Olympic Games in France. The artistic images presented — regardless of the motives declared by the organizers — contradict and are completely incompatible not only with Christian evangelical morality, with Christian spiritual life, but also with common sense, with natural human rights, with centuries-old European aesthetic criteria, as well as with the classical ideal of beauty — a healthy spirit in a healthy body, which is embodied in the idea of the Olympic Games. Vulgarity and ideological tastelessness are only part of the problem. Much more important remains the issue of defiant, discriminatory and insulting attitude towards Christian believers, which we cannot accept and remain silent about,” — the Patriarchate states.

In addition, the Bulgarian Church added that the reaction of Christian European communities to what happened underlines the fact that “attempts to de-Christianize and dehumanize it will not succeed.”

“The many critical voices that have been raised for several days now show that Christian Europe is alive and that attempts to dechristianize and dehumanize it will not succeed. Because history has proven that all attempts to fight against Christ and His holy Church have failed and failed. The way of our people is the European way, but we are for a Christian Europe; for a Europe that respects and honors its history and roots. We are convinced that without real, living faith in Christ and in eternal Christian values Europe has no future and can not be”, — summarized in the statement.

Recall, earlier we reported that the press service of the Patriarchate of Constantinople published a statement on the anti-Christian performance, which occurred at the opening of the “Olympics-2024” in Paris. The Phanar said that blasphemy is not a sign of progress and cannot be justified in any way, as it violates the right to faith and respect for religious symbols.
