UOC church in Kaniv to be "transferred" to OCU by state

The ancient Holy Dormition Cathedral in Kanev, which the state took away from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, is going to be handed over to the OCU. The fate of the temple will be decided at the town meeting on Saturday, August 10. The corresponding decision of the Cherkassy regional administration posted in the social network Facebook.
“Cherkassy regional military administration considered the appeal of the religious organization “Kanev Uspensky Cathedral” from 31.07.2024 regarding the granting of permission to hold a general meeting of the religious community in the city of Kanev and inform. […] Cherkasy Regional Administration agrees to hold in the city of Kanev 10.08.2024 at 10:00 a.m. general meeting of the religious community in connection with the change of canonical and jurisdictional affiliation from the “Ukrainian Orthodox Church” to the “Orthodox Church of Ukraine” subject to security and availability of shelters”, – said in the decision of Cherkasy Regional Administration.
We will remind, earlier we reported that the ancient Uspensky (St. George) Cathedral of the XІІ century of the city of Kanev, previously expropriated by the state from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, stands closed since April 2024. The state administration reported that the temple may become part of the Shevchenko National Reserve.
