"For them it is an electoral issue," - political scientist about the deputies who do not want to vote for the ban of the UOC

Ukrainian political analyst Ihor Reiterovych has criticized the Verkhovna Rada MPs who refuse to vote for the scandalous draft law No 8371 aimed at banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Reiterovych believes that deputies are thus trying to save the electorate for possible future elections. About this he told in a commentary to the edition “Facts”.
“For them it is an electoral issue. They believe that in this way they can stuff themselves with these electoral options and then use them. They have some common projects, some even have a spiritual rank at all. Of course, they will not oppose the UOC-MP, because they have their own interest. Economic, maybe some other. But I do not think that spiritual, because they are all extremely poorly versed in the issues of canonicity, tomos, etc.,” – the political scientist said.
Reiterovich added that the ban of the UOC is an extreme measure, because the Parliament could have thought of other ways to regulate the activities of the Church, thus leaving Her under close control.
“The situation has now reached an edge where a decision has to be made. However, except for accepting the bill in the second reading, the MPs may try to replace it with something, so that it will prescribe other norms to regulate the activities of the UOC-MP, unlike those that exist now,” – added the expert.
Earlier, the chairman of the inter-factional association of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine “For decolonization and dismantling of the Russian Empire” MP from the party “Servant of the People” Oleg Dunda commented on the further steps of the government after the adoption of the scandalous bill № 8371, aimed at banning the activities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Dunda believes that the public has too high expectations from this legislative initiative, and the UOC will not disappear from Ukraine even after the law is voted down.
