“Believers of the UOC” appealed to Metropolitan Onufry with a request to fulfill the requirements of the law #8371

“Believers of the UOC” who did not identify themselves published a letter to the Primate of the Church, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy of Kyiv and All Ukraine, asking him to fulfill the requirements of the scandalous law No. 8371 and break off relations with the Russian Orthodox Church. The text does not specify who initiated the appeal. It is published here.

“Your Beatitude, we ask you to respond to the request of the head of the SSERF of August 22, 2024, and publish a letter to the Russian Orthodox Church on withdrawal from its membership, as well as to inform the Local Churches about this. The UOC announced that it was separating from the ROC in the spring of 2022. However, the government and Ukrainian society call on the UOC to declare this decision through official letters, so we ask you to do so. According to the head of the SSERF, this step will help to avoid banning parishes and seizing the premises of churches of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Your Beatitude, please do not leave us alone in this difficult situation. We all pray to God for the preservation of our Church, but we also need concrete actions to protect it,” — the appeal reads.

We will remind, on August 24, 2024, on the Independence Day of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky signed Law No. 8371, adopted in the second reading in the Ukrainian Parliament, aimed at banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. In addition, the head of state “distinguished himself” with another attack on the UOC, publicly calling the clergy and believers of the Church “Moscow devils.”
