Zelensky confirmed that he expects Bartholomew to grant patriarchate status to Ukraine

Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the information that he had appealed to Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople to grant Ukraine the status of “patriarchate,” apparently referring to the OCU. The head of state believes that Ukrainians would positively perceive such a step by Phanar. This was reported by LB.ua.

“I said that our people, Ukrainians, would understand if our status was elevated to the patriarchate. The exarchs accepted the information and will convey it to Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, they will consult. They are in contact with Viktor Yelensky on this issue. They should return with specific proposals,” — Zelensky said.

We will remind, on August 24, 2024, on the Independence Day of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky signed Law No. 8371, adopted in the second reading in the Ukrainian Parliament, aimed at banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. In addition, the head of state “distinguished himself” with another attack on the UOC, publicly calling the clergy and believers of the Church “Moscow devils.”
