In Cherkassy, UOC believers managed to defend the cathedral from seizure

On the evening of September 29, 2024, in Cherkasy, unidentified persons in camouflage uniforms attempted to raid the Archangel Michael Cathedral of Cherkasy diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The raiders, in the number of 30 people, penetrated the territory of the temple, intending to get inside, but the parishioners of the cathedral managed to protect the shrine. About it reports the Telegram-channel “Cherkassy pilgrim”.

As Metropolitan of Cherkassy and Kanev Theodosius said, as soon as it became known about the impending seizure of the Archangel Michael Cathedral, the diocesan media published an appeal to the faithful — to come and protect the temple. As a result, a significant number of believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church came to the territory of the cathedral, which forced the raiders to change their intentions.

“I thank each of you for your prayers. For not sleeping today, standing in the cold, praying. Asked the Mother of God and St. Macarius the Martyr to protect us. Thank you that you not only love your Church, but are ready to defend it if necessary,” — Metropolitan Theodosius said.

Note, earlier we reported that the decision of the Cherkassy city Council, Cherkassy diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was deprived of the land plot under the St. Michael’s Cathedral of Cherkassy. It is about a land plot of 8.7 hectares of the so-called “Soborny” park, where the cathedral is located.
