Mayor of Cherkasy, OCU chaplains and local radicals call public to seize UOC Cathedral

Cherkasy Mayor Anatoly Bondarenko, along with local representatives of the OCU and right-wing radical organizations, recorded an appeal on their social media accounts calling for the end of the seizure of the local Archangel Michael Cathedral of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church that began last night. Supporters of the OCU claim that the UOC believers themselves seized the cathedral, which allegedly “passed to the OCU” last night, and call on “concerned citizens” to help expel the rightful owners from the church. This is reported by the Telegram channel Raskoalm.net, publishing the corresponding video.
“The mayor of Cherkasy calls on the ‘community of Cherkasy’ to join the seizure of the UOC Cathedral. Obviously, they will try to turn what is happening into a “civilized way” and hold a “community meeting” to legalize the atrocity. The police, by the way, left the territory of the Cathedral, leaving the UOC believers alone with the armed raiders. In fact, there are only a few hours left before the complete seizure of the cathedral,” — the commentary to the video reads.
We will remind, at night, on October 17, 2024, in Cherkasy, supporters of the OCU, with the support of local authorities, made another attempt to seize the Archangel Michael Cathedral of the Cherkasy Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Armed raiders, taking advantage of the curfew, freely entered the church and the diocesan premises at night, but with the onset of morning, the head of the Cherkasy Diocese of the UOC, Metropolitan Theodosius, the clergy and parishioners of the cathedral gathered and defended the shrine, expelling the invaders.
