State and UOC to sue for ownership of Holy Spirit Skete Monastery in Pochayiv

The Ternopil Regional State Administration and the Holy Spirit Pochayiv Monastery of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church filed counterclaims with the Western Court of Appeal regarding the ownership of the complex of premises of the Holy Spirit Monastery-Skete, which is an architectural monument. This is reported on the website of the Unified State Register of Court Decisions.

It is reported that the UOC monastery is appealing in court against the decision of the first instance to expropriate the complex of premises of the Pochayiv Holy Spirit Skete Monastery. The Ternopil Regional State Administration, in turn, is trying to prove in court that the ownership of the complex of premises was granted to the UOC monastic community illegally.

“To combine into one appeal proceeding the appeals of the Pochayiv City Council and the Pochayiv Holy Spirit Monastery of the Ternopil Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, filed against the decision of the Economic Court of the Ternopil Region of 08/14/2024,” – the document says.

As reported, on August 14, 2024, the Economic Court of the Ternopil Region decided to expropriate the complex of premises of the Pochayiv Holy Spirit Monastery of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The court ruling states that the monastery’s religious buildings, which are architectural monuments, were transferred to the Holy Spirit Pochayiv Monastery of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in violation of procedures.
