Exhibitions and film screenings are organized in the Chernihiv Cathedral seized from the UOC

On November 1, 2024, a film screening was held in the ancient Transfiguration Cathedral of Chernihiv, which was taken over from the Chernihiv Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The event was organized by the National Architectural and Historical Reserve Chernihiv Ancient. In addition, an exhibition was organized in the church. This was reported by Suspilne.Chernihiv.

“The premiere of the first series of the documentary project “Chernihiv Principality. 1,000 Years” was held on November 1 at the Transfiguration Cathedral of Chernihiv. 1,000 years ago, after defeating his brother Yaroslav the Wise, Prince Mstyslav sat on the throne in Chernihiv. From that moment on, the history of the Chernihiv principality began, whose possessions stretched for 1,100 kilometers in its heyday. This is more than any distance within modern-day Spain or France, and it is almost as long as the length of Ukraine from west to east. From the Kerch Strait in the south to the swamps of the Moscow region in the north. There was no Moscow itself, no city, no settlement, no evidence of life at all,” — the statement reads.

Earlier, we reported that another Holy Trinity Cathedral in Chernihiv, which was previously taken away from the Chernihiv Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, is to be opened to visitors as a museum in the near future. The process of “de-conservation” of the religious building will take place gradually.
