State finally takes Tereshchenko's estate away from Zhytomyr Eparchy of the UOC

The state has finally expropriated the premises of the Tereshchenko estate, removing them from the ownership of the Zhytomyr Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. It is reported that the Church lost all the courts in which it tried to appeal the decision to revoke the ownership of the estate, which is an architectural monument. At one time, the Zhytomyr Diocese of the UOC planned to restore the premises and arrange a monastery there, but now Tereshchenko’s estate has been transferred to the Korostyshiv Professional Agricultural Lyceum. This was reported on the Facebook page of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
«The estate is an architectural monument of local importance and should be preserved as a value for the state. The estate includes a palace and other buildings that once housed stables and aircraft workshops. Currently, the buildings are in unsatisfactory and sometimes emergency condition — they have suffered significant damage and therefore need restoration and protection. Following a lawsuit filed by prosecutors from the Berdychiv District Prosecutor’s Office in Zhytomyr Oblast, the Tereshchenko estate was returned to state ownership. Currently, the State Register of Real Property Rights has registered the state’s ownership of the complex of buildings represented by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. All buildings have been transferred to the balance sheet of the Korostyshiv Professional Agricultural Lyceum ,” the Prosecutor General’s Office writes.
As reported, on January 15, 2024 , the Northwestern Economic Court of Appeal considered the appeal of the UOC representatives against the decision of the Economic Court of Zhytomyr region and dismissed it. It is noted that the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine acted as a third party in this process, as it “consistently fights for the return of Ukrainian historical heritage to state ownership.”
