UGCC appoints new exarch for Donetsk region

On November 21, 2024, the Church of the Mother of God of Perpetual Help of the UGCC in Zaporizhzhia hosted religious events during which the new head of the Donetsk Exarchate of the UGCC, Maksym Ryabukha, was installed. The event was attended by representatives of the RCC and the OCU. This is reported by the official website of the UGCC.

“The solemn service on the feast of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary was led by the Father and Head of the UGCC, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, in concelebration with the Apostolic Nuncio in Ukraine, Archbishop Visvaldas Kulbokas, Bishop Stepan Menko, Bishop Maksym Ryabukha and many bishops and priests. Metropolitan Volodymyr Viytyshyn of Ivano-Frankivsk, Greek Catholic Bishop Theodore Matsapula of Mukachevo, UGCC bishops from all over Ukraine, and bishops of the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine arrived in Zaporizhzhia. Bishops of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine also attended the Divine Liturgy. During the Liturgy, Bishop Andriy Khimyak, Secretary of the Synod of Bishops of the UGCC, read out the Patriarchal decree on naming Bishop Maksym Ryabukha as Exarch of the Donetsk Exarchate of the UGCC,” – the statement reads.

Earlier, we reported that the construction of the Church of St. Michael the Archangel of the UGCC is planned within the historical area of Socialist Zaporizhzhia. It will be located at 1-b Metallurgiv Ave. A project for the future church has been developed. On November 13, 2024, it was presented at a meeting of the Advisory Board.
