Tallinn city authorities have doubled the rent for the premises used by the EOC

Tallinn city authorities have doubled the rent for the premises rented by the Estonian Orthodox Church. Thus, the Estonian government continues to pressurize the Church in order to induce the EOC to comply with the requirements to change its canonical affiliation. This is reported by the publication “Interfax”.
It is reported that from December 1, 2024 for the use of office premises on Pikk Street in the Old Town as compensation for damages will be charged rent corresponding to the market price, i.e. more than twice the previous rent. As a reminder, the said premises house the diocesan office of the Estonian Orthodox Church. In this way the Estonian government is trying to induce the EOC to break ties with the Russian Orthodox Church.
Recall, earlier we reported that the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Estonia proposed to the Government of the Republic of the bill, according to which in the country should not operate religious organizations associated with institutions that support military aggression. According to the minister, the change in the law is due to the fact that the Estonian Orthodox Church itself has not made significant steps in the matter of getting out from under the influence of the Russian Orthodox Church.
