Pope has shown his openness and love for LGBTQ community - Vatican Secretariat spokesman

Jesuit priest James Martin, a consultant to the Vatican’s Secretariat for Communications, has revealed that Pope Francis “knows many devout gay priests.” Martin believes that by allowing homosexuals to become priests in the RCC, the Pope is showing love and openness to the LGBT community. Martin said in a comment to The New York Times.

“With his permission to share this, the Holy Father said he knew many good, pious and celibate seminarians and priests with homosexual tendencies. Again, he affirmed my ministry with LGBTQ people and showed his openness and love for the LGBTQ community,” — James Martin said.

Recall, earlier we reported that the Vatican continues to expand the “Overton window” in the issue of the Roman Catholic Church’s attitude to LGBT. After the recent scandal with the declaration “Fiducia supplicans”, which in the RCC allowed the blessing of same-sex couples, the “Holy See” approved a document allowing open homosexuals to become clergy. The new document from the Italian Bishops’ Conference states that open homosexuality is no longer a barrier to candidates for the priesthood.
