"We must act according to the law": Nikopol mayor responds to demands to take away UOC church at city cemetery

The mayor of Nikopol (Dnipropetrovska oblast), Oleksandr Sayuk, responded to claims against the city council demanding that the local religious community of the Kryvyi Rih Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church take away St. George’s Church, located on the territory of the city cemetery. Sayuk noted that in this matter it is necessary to act in accordance with the law, applying to law enforcement agencies with appropriate statements. This was reported by the local edition of Nikopol News.

“We provide them with all the necessary data about this church. It’s all in the registers — whose property it is and on what land it is located. Therefore, I believe that it is necessary to contact law enforcement agencies, and only then make a decision. We always comply with the law. And in this matter, our position is the law,” — said Sayuk.

Earlier, we reported that Cherkasy Mayor Anatoliy Bondarenko had once again publicly insulted the clergy and believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Bondarenko called the clergy of the UOC “FSB agents” and called on the Security Service of Ukraine to increase pressure on the Church.
