Earlier, we reported that Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal commented on the possible ban of the Estonian Orthodox Church in the country through the adoption of a law. Mihal believes that the law is justified because the Estonian Church is led by people “close to the Russian president.”
“We believe that the actions of the Estonian authorities are contrary to international law,” - Estonian Church hierarch at the UN

Bishop Daniel of Tartu, vicar of the Diocese of Tallinn of the Estonian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, spoke during the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council, which is being held in Geneva from February 24 to April 4, 2025. The hierarch noted that the GOC of the MP is forced to bear responsibility for the position of religious and secular figures living in other countries. This is reported by the official website of the Church.
“The Estonian parliament is currently considering a law that prohibits us from having any ties with a religious center in the Russian Federation. However, we cannot abandon the canonical connection, as it is part of our faith. The law contains provisions that actually make the Estonian Orthodox Church responsible for the actions of religious leaders in another country. But this contradicts the legal principle of individual responsibility. We believe that the actions of the Estonian authorities contradict international law and can lead to serious consequences, the formation of hatred in society and human rights violations,” — the bishop emphasized.
