Estonian Orthodox Church forced to change name due to pressure on it - media

TASS sources in the Russian Orthodox Church have commented on the decision of the Estonian Orthodox Church to change its name. The ROC believes that such a step by the Estonian Church is a forced measure due to the growing pressure on it in Estonia. The source’s commentary is published by TASS.
“It is good that the court did not deprive this church of the right to determine its own name, another decision would have been quite incomprehensible. However, let’s not forget that the whole situation arose as a result of lawless pressure on the church, attempts to interfere in its internal affairs and dictate its will, despite the principle of protecting religious freedom,” — said the interlocutor of the agency.
Earlier we reported that on the eve of the Estonian Parliament’s consideration of the law restricting the activities of the Estonian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate), the court of the Republic allowed the EOC MP to change its name. Now the Estonian Orthodox Church will bear the official name “Estonian Christian Orthodox Church”.
