Police and National Guard take under guard Cherkasy churches of UOC, which supporters of OCU plan to seize

On April 2, 2025, in Cherkasy, the police and the National Guard stood guard near the city’s churches of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the seizure of which was announced the day before by supporters of the OCU. We are talking about the churches in honor of the Nativity of Christ and the Apostle Andrew the First-Called of the Cherkasy Diocese of the UOC. This was reported on the Facebook account of the Cherkasy police.

“The police of the Cherkasy region ensure law and order near the churches. Employees of the Cherkasy District Police Department, police communication groups and patrol officers are involved in ensuring public safety and order. Law enforcement officers are checking suspicious persons and vehicles to prevent any provocations and illegal actions. Currently, the situation near the churches in Cherkasy is under control,” – the Cherkasy police said.

As reported, the day before, the Cherkasy Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church reported that supporters of the OCU, with the support of local authorities, plan to seize two more churches of the UOC in Cherkasy in the near future. These are churches in honor of the Nativity of Christ and the Apostle Andrew the First-Called, which are not architectural monuments and are not owned by the city authorities.
