“I urge all of you to pray for our persecuted Church,” - Metropolitan Yevgeny of Tallinn and All Estonia

The press service of the Estonian Orthodox Christian Church has published a new appeal by Metropolitan Eugene of Tallinn and All Estonia in connection with the intention of the Estonian government to adopt a law banning the EOCC in the coming days. The first hierarch called on the clergy, believers and all those who are not indifferent to the fate of Orthodoxy in Estonia to intensify their prayers. The appeal was published on the website of the EOCC.

«On Wednesday, April 9, the third reading of the draft amendments to the law on churches and parishes and the final vote on it are to take place. On this day, I urge all of you to pray fervently for our persecuted Church, adding to your prayers the reading of the Holy Gospel and the Psalms. May the All-Merciful Lord, through the prayers of the Blessed Virgin Mary and all the saints of the land of Estonia, accept our labors and grant us the opportunity to celebrate the feast of Holy Easter in peace and harmony,» — the text of the appeal reads.

It should be recalled that on March 26, 2025, amendments to Estonia’s Law on Churches and Parishes, aimed at restricting the activities of the Estonian Orthodox Christian Church (formerly EOC MP), passed their second reading in the country’s Parliament. The final discussion of the amendments and the third reading are scheduled in the Riigikogu on April 9.
