Court hearing in the case of a well-known UOC priest held in Transcarpathia

On April 10, 2025, the Uzhhorod City District Court of the Transcarpathian region held a regular court hearing in a criminal case against a well-known Transcarpathian priest of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Archpriest Dmitry Sidor. The clergyman is accused of inciting religious hatred and violating the equality of citizens on religious grounds. This was reported by a local journalist and supporter of the OCU Vitaliy Glagola.

It is reported that the criminal proceedings against the priest have been going on for two years. According to Glagola, the courts postpone and delay the trial because the lawyer of Archpriest Dmitry Sidor is allegedly close to the judge assigned to the case. Nevertheless, the litigation is coming to an end and the priest will be sentenced on May 21.

As we reported earlier, the Security Service of Ukraine’s counterintelligence detained a 58-year-old archpriest of the Pokrovsk vicariate of the UOC in Donetsk region, who is accused of allegedly collaborating with the Russian FSB. The investigation believes that the priest was recruited through his daughter, who lives in Russia. According to the case file, she had previously appealed to Russian President Vladimir Putin to grant Russian citizenship to her mother and sister from Ukraine.
