In the village of Edgcumbe, located in Cornwall County in the southwest of the United Kingdom, a Methodist church building dating back to the late 19th century is up for sale. Notably, the property is being offered not for religious use, but with the intention of converting it into a private residential home. The asking price is £195,000, or about 10.8 million Ukrainian Hryvnias. This is reported on the real estate agency Lodge & Thomas website.

The church was built in 1885. It has two floors: the first floor houses a Sunday school room, a kitchen, a prayer room, and a boiler room, while the second floor contains the main entrance and the main space for worship. The building also has a choir with an organ in the attic. Outside, there is a stone annex used as a toilet. Behind the church, there is a cemetery.

The building is listed as a Category II architectural monument. Since it is no longer used for its original religious purpose, real estate agents recommend changing its functional use to a residential space.

However, potential buyers are urged to adhere to the principle of delicate restoration: to preserve the historical authenticity of the building, consider the relationship with the adjacent cemetery, and avoid cluttering the property with household items.

Thus, one of Cornwall’s historical churches could become a private residence — an example of how the fate of sacred buildings is changing in modern Europe.
