Papal Nuncio Visits Volyn as Part of Preparations for Diocesan Jubilee Celebrations

During his visit to Lutsk, Apostolic Nuncio to Ukraine Archbishop Visvaldas Kulbokas met with the head of the Volyn Regional Council Hryhorii Nedopad and the head of the Regional Military Administration Ivan Rudnytskyi. The meeting was also attended by Bishop Vitalii Skomarovskyi of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Lutsk and Canon Father Pavlo Khomiak. The information was reported by VolynUA.

The visit takes place as part of the preparations for the Jubilee Year of the Universal Church. In 2025, the Diocese of Lutsk will commemorate the 650th anniversary of its founding in Volodymyr and the 600th anniversary of the episcopal see being moved to Lutsk.

On this occasion, Archbishop Kulbokas will celebrate a Holy Mass at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in memory of the late Pope Francis.

In his speech, the Vatican representative emphasized the Church’s commitment to serving people and expressed support for the Ukrainian people during wartime.

It was also previously reported that Vakhtang Kipshidze, Deputy Head of the ROC Synodal Department for Church Relations with Society and Media, shared his view on the prospects of uniting Orthodoxy with Catholicism and Protestantism. He argued that while Christian denominations may cooperate on certain humanitarian issues, true union into one Church, given doctrinal differences, appears entirely unrealistic.
