On May 19, 2025, the Vatican hosted the first meeting between Pope Leo XIV and Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople. During the dialogue between the heads of the two churches, they discussed the deepening of theological dialogue and the joint celebration of the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council. It is reported that during the conversation that took place between the Pontiff and the Patriarch, among other things, special attention was paid to deepening the theological dialogue between the two churches. The Pope thanked the head of Phanar for attending the ceremony of his official accession to the papacy and emphasized the importance of developing inter-Christian dialogue and cooperation. He also assured him of his strong desire to visit Turkey during this year and at a certain time to celebrate with Patriarch Bartholomew the seventh anniversary of the 1700th anniversary of the convening of the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea.
