Head of the Armenian Church Calls for Ecumenism with the Greek Church under Patriarch Bartholomew's Leadership

During the presentation of his book «The Armenian Church,» which was held on May 30th at the Old Greek Parliament in Athens, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia Aram I called for deepening ecumenical dialogue between the Armenian Apostolic Church and the Greek Orthodox Church «under the leadership of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.» This was reported by Orthodox Times.

In his speech, the Catholicos emphasized the need for active cooperation between the two ancient Christian traditions, noting that such dialogue should take place with the support of the Constantinople Patriarchate «to restore commitment to ecumenical and theological cooperation.»

“We share a common Christology, though with different interpretations,”  the Catholicos stated.

He stressed that the Greek and Armenian Churches not only share a common historical heritage but also face similar challenges today, and therefore are called to closer partnership:

“The Church is not a museum. It must consider its role in society—where it stands in relation to the world’s current realities, to climate change, to democracy and politics, to the problems that societies are facing today. Our Churches must not remain regional—we have a greater role to play.”

It is also worth noting that the head of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, held a meeting with a delegation of the Orthodox Church in America. The OCA delegation was headed by Archbishop Alexy of Alaska and Sitka.
