Monk from the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra: “If we prayed at least as much as they do at the Pochaiv Lavra, none of the museum workers would have touched the relics”

An archimandrite from the brotherhood of the Holy Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, who wished to remain anonymous, commented on the situation with the relics of the Kiev-Pechersk saints. He believes that what is happening in the Lavra is a consequence of the low level of spiritual life that existed before the UOC was expelled from the monastery. He spoke about this in a comment to the UOJ.

«All this is the result of our ‘piety’. If we prayed at least as they pray in the Pochaiv Lavra, truly fought against our passions, and did not justify them, then no one would dare to touch the relics from among the museum workers. Since prayer is weak, fasting is non-existent, and all kinds of passions are flourishing, the Lord once again allows the relics of His saints to be desecrated,» — said the interlocutor.

According to him, if all the brethren had imposed strict fasting on themselves at least three times a week and intensified their prayers, the Lavra would have been freed.

“And not museum workers, but pious pilgrims would be able to freely venerate the relics. But because of our wickedness, as predicted, the judgment began with the house of God, with the fate of the Mother of God,” — he concluded.

We recently reported that, at the request of the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, the Microbiology Laboratory of Sumy State University “ECOMEDHIM” conducted “tests” on the relics of the Venerable Pechersky in the Far Caves of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. This information comes from the response to a lawyer’s request from Archpriest Nikita Chekman. He noted that the ministry refused to provide any further information about the actions of institutions regarding the Lavra’s shrines.
