Rector of Ukrainian Catholic University refuses Zelensky's offer to head the Education Ministry

The rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU) and a cleric of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Bohdan Prakh, was offered the post of education minister by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, but he refused. This information was made public by the Philadelphia hierarch of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Borys Hudziak, in an interview with the LB.ua news and analysis website.

According to the metropolitan, the offer was made during Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv.

The reason for Bohdan Prakh’s refusal was the norms of canon law. According to them, a Catholic priest cannot hold public office.

«There are exceptions, but the rule is clear and it applies. Unlike the Orthodox world, where the norms are vague, in the Catholic Church there is a code of canons for Rome and 23 Eastern Catholic Churches, and there everything is very clearly spelled out,» — said Boris Gudziak.

We shall remind you that the renovated building of the Ukrainian Catholic University was recently consecrated in Lviv. The event was led by the president of the educational institution, hierarch of the Ukrainian Catholic Church Borys Hudziak.
