Ukraine proposes EU sanctions against Vadym Novinsky

Ukraine has approached the European Union with a proposal to impose sanctions against former MP Vadym Novynskyy, who is suspected of treason and has already been arrested in absentia in Ukraine. The purpose of the proposed restrictions is to block him from making profits from his assets without disrupting the operations of the companies themselves.
According to the Politarena portal, citing an interview with Vladyslav Vlasiuk, the president’s authorized representative for sanctions policy, the sanctions are supposed to establish a «block» between the enterprise and its beneficial owner. «Sanctions should in no case affect the normal functioning of an enterprise, even if its owner is a sub-sanctioned person,» Vladyslav Vlasyuk emphasized. The presence of such persons at Ukrainian strategic assets «does not meet the national interests».
At the same time, it was noted that it is impossible to deprive a person of ownership rights on the basis of sanctions alone — this requires a relevant court ruling.
We shall remind you that Ukraine has recently put former MP Protodeacon Vadym Novynskyy on a wanted list. He is charged with «high treason» and «inciting religious hatred». According to the investigation, Novinsky, allegedly, since 2018, disseminated information in support of the policy of the Russian Federation aimed at weakening the independence of Ukraine, as well as promoting narratives of the ideology of the «Russian world».
