LGBT activist Ivan Verbitsky appointed as new Deputy Minister of Culture

The Cabinet of Ministers has appointed Ivan Verbitsky to the post of deputy culture minister. He will be responsible for the protection of cultural heritage and museums. The appointment drew public attention due to the fact that Verbitsky is an open homosexual and LGBT activist.
According to the Telegram channel Orthodoxy and Peace, acting Culture Minister Tatyana Berezhnaya confirmed the new deputy’s area of responsibility. «He will be responsible for the formation and implementation of state policy in the spheres of protection of cultural heritage, museum business, export, import and return of cultural property. There are already key tasks and the first steps of work in these areas, » said Berezhnaya.
At the same time, the source emphasizes that Ivan Verbitsky is known as a long-term participant of actions in support of the rights of the LGBT community. In 2019, he made a public camming out and since then has been open about his beliefs.
