Head of the UGCC urged to think about the Local Kyiv Church

The All-Church Forum of theologians of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church was held in Lviv, where the head of the UGCC, Sviatoslav Shevchuk, appealed to the participants of the event with a call to comprehend the idea of the Local Church of Kyiv.

According to the official portal of the UGCC, the two-day forum “Theology of the UGCC in the XXI century: signs of time and hope” opened on September 26 at the Ukrainian Catholic University. In his address, Sviatoslav Shevchuk noted that the UGCC has invested significant resources in the education of clergy and laity, and now this “gift” must be multiplied. “We must give to our Church everything that has been invested in us. This gift we have no right to bury, but must develop and multiply. The Church needs you, colleagues. In true theology, life in the true Body of Christ’s Church…. We theologians will be interesting to the world only when we become the voice of the wounded Ukrainian people. Our experience of God during the war differs from the experience of knowing God of other local Churches”, – emphasized the head of the UGCC.

We will remind, earlier Sviatoslav Shevchuk shared his vision of the development of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic union. Shevchuk claims that the UGCC, although it is in communion with the Vatican, does not belong to the “Western Patriarchate”. He believes that the UGCC should become the foundation for a “united Kiev church,” so the Uniates cannot give up the idea of gaining the status of a “patriarchate” in order to equalize their rights with other local churches.
