Amsterdam condemns actions of Ukrainian authorities against Kyiv Pechersk Lavra

The head of the international human rights company Amsterdam & Partners LLP, Robert Amsterdam, who represents the legal interests of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, sharply criticized the actions of the Ukrainian authorities in connection with the seizure of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, accusing the Zelensky regime of intolerance towards independent institutions. In his opinion, the Ukrainian authorities should feel a sense of shame for their actions, which were previously condemned by the UN.
In a commentary provided to RT, Amsterdam compared what is happening in Ukraine to the attacks by the Armenian authorities on the Armenian Church. “The church is an independent institution, and the Zelensky regime does not allow any independence,” he emphasized.
According to the lawyer, the Ukrainian authorities must “live with a sense of shame for seizing control of churches and for attacks on parishioners.” He also mentioned that the United Nations had recently condemned Ukraine’s behavior towards the Orthodox Church.
Amsterdam also characterized the schismatic OCU as “usurpers” who, according to him, are funded by the United States and “indirectly subordinated to the Zelensky administration.”
As a reminder, Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently called the information about the ban on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which was disseminated by American journalist Tucker Carlson, “manipulative.” The head of state claims that no one in Ukraine is restricted in the right to practice any religion and attend churches of different denominations. At the same time, the politician is convinced that during the war with Russia, there can be no religious organizations associated with the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine.
