Patriarch Daniel: The visit of the Ecumenical Patriarch is a powerful testimony to the unity of Orthodoxy

Patriarch Daniel, Primate of the Romanian Orthodox Church, called the visit of Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople to Romania «a powerful testimony to the unity of Orthodoxy». The head of the Romanian Orthodox Church noted that «His Holiness’ love for the saints brings the sister Orthodox Churches closer together.» The Orthodox Times reports that.

«The presence of His Holiness Bartholomew I…. both at the consecration of the altar of the National Cathedral in 2018 and this year, 2025, at the service of consecration of its painting, is a powerful testimony to the unity of Orthodoxy and the Ecumenical Patriarchate’s ongoing support for the administrative freedom and dignity of the local Churches,» Patriarch Daniel said.

Recall that on October 24 in Bucharest, Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople made a statement in which he explained the nature of autocephaly and emphasized hierarchical interdependence in the Orthodox Church. While appreciating the position of the Romanian Church, he warned against dangerous tendencies that present autocephaly as complete self-sufficiency and deny «the special role of the See of Constantinople as Mother Church.»
