Court in Cherkasy extends preventive measure for UOC Metropolitan Theodosius

on October 30, 2025, the Sosnovsky District Court of Cherkasy held a regular court hearing on one of the cases brought against the hierarch of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Metropolitan Theodosius of Cherkasy and Kanev. At the request of the prosecution, the court extended the measure of restraint to the hierarch. About it reports «Suspilne.Cherkasy».

It is reported that the Prosecutor Vadim Kolomiets filed a petition to extend the measure of restraint in the form of personal commitment for two months. In particular, according to him, it is about the risk that the accused may abscond from justice and influence witnesses

«I believe that the risks, to which I drew attention at previous meetings, continue to exist and have not changed, » — said the prosecutor in court.

In turn, the defense side said that they did not agree with the motivation of the prosecutor’s office. Regarding the risk of questioning witnesses, it was noted that they have already been questioned, so there is no such risk anymore.

«Despite the fact that the preventive measure has been repeatedly changed, the prosecutor cites the same risks. The impression is that we are considering the case, but nothing changes. If the prosecutor previously filed a motion to change the measure of restraint, now he simply asks to extend the personal commitment, with the same justification,» — said one of the lawyers of Metropolitan Theodosius.

Nevertheless, after the deliberation room, the judge announced the extension of the measure of restraint in the form of personal commitment for another two months. The court continued to consider the video evidence.

Recall, the vicar of the Sviatogorsk Lavra Metropolitan Arseny was re-detained by officers of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) on October 28, immediately after his release from custody on bail. The hierarch, who has serious health problems, is currently in a temporary detention center.
