A unique wooden church of the XIX century in the Kiev region is on the verge of complete destruction

The unique wooden church of Saints Cosmas and Damian, built in the 19th century, is under the threat of extinction in the Kiev region. The architectural monument, located in the village of Kolentsy, Vyshgorod district, is in critical condition and requires immediate restoration to prevent irreversible losses.
According to the portal «My Kivshchyna» with reference to the community «Ukraine Incognita», the temple, erected in 1874, is one of the most valuable examples of wooden sacral architecture of the region. Its architectural solution has no analogues in Naddnepryanschina: the dome of the church rests on eight wooden columns. The complexity of the construction and characteristic elements, such as octagonal and quatrefoils, suggest that the author of the project could be the famous Kiev architect Nikolai Jurgens.
At the moment, the condition of the monument raises serious concerns. The photos published by the activists show that the wooden cladding (shalivka) has rotted, and the logs of the log cabin have begun to lose strength. The building is rapidly deteriorating and there is a real threat of collapse.
The local community does not have the necessary funds to carry out expensive restoration works. In this regard, the activists call on all those who are not indifferent, as well as the authorities, to pay attention to the problem and join efforts to save this outstanding object of historical and cultural heritage of Ukraine before it is lost forever.
Recall, earlier we reported that 9.4 million hryvnias will be allocated from the budget of Lviv region for the restoration of the UGCC church. We are talking about the wooden church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit in the village of Verkhnyaya Rozhanka, Slavsky district, Lviv region. At the same time, according to media reports, a corruption component was revealed in the process, as the prices for restoration materials were significantly inflated.
