The King of Jordan presented the Serbian Orthodox Church with land near the site of the Baptism of the Lord

King Abdullah II of Jordan presented a significant gift to the Serbian Orthodox Church (SOC) — a plot of land in the Al-Maghtas complex, located directly at the site of the Baptism of the Lord Jesus Christ on the Jordan River. The gesture was particularly significant for the PCA, as it previously had no real estate of its own in this world Christian center.
According to the Telegram channel Pravblog, Patriarch Porphyry was informed of the monarch’s decision by Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, the king’s chief advisor on religious and cultural affairs. The First Hierarch accepted the gift «with great joy and gratitude.»
Patriarch Porfiry emphasized that with this noble act, Abdullah II «will inscribe his name in golden letters in the history of the Serbian Orthodox Church.» The donated plot is of special significance, as it is located in close proximity to the historical site of the Baptism of the Lord Jesus Christ, which makes it a valuable acquisition for the Serbian Patriarchate.
Recall, earlier we reported that the Primates of the Orthodox Churches of Jerusalem, Antioch and Serbia held a meeting with King Abdullah II of Jordan, during which they discussed the restoration of stability in the Middle East and the preservation of Christian presence in the region. The meeting took place on December 8, 2025 at Husseiniyya Palace.
