The Archbishop of Cyprus called the deposition of Metropolitan Tychicus "a cure for bigotry"

Archbishop George of Cyprus has summarized the year 2025 for the Church of Cyprus, calling the deposition of Metropolitan Tihikos of Paphos «the healing of fanaticism.» The event was reportedly the biggest problem for Orthodoxy on the island, initiated by «sick fanaticism» that attempted to infiltrate the church structure.

In an interview with Phileleftheros, the Primate of the Church of Cyprus stated that the said fanaticism «does not recognize any authority in Orthodoxy but itself.» In response, the Holy Synod took a «painful decision» to stop the phenomenon by removing from the Metropolitan See Metropolitan Tihikos of Paphos, around whom the phenomenon had developed. Archbishop George also specified that Metropolitan Tikhikos was accused of ordaining a priest who had committed «canonical offenses».

Recall, earlier we reported that former Metropolitan Tychicus of Paphosis facing the threat of final ejection from the ministry if he does not obey the decisions of the Synod of the Cypriot Orthodox Church. He is supported by radical church groups, which complicates the situation and makes his departure almost inevitable.
