Metropolitan Tikhikos intends to sue for the Paphos cathedra

The suspended Metropolitan Tychicus has announced his intention to appeal to the civil courts of the Republic of Cyprus in January 2026. His aim is to seek reinstatement as ruling bishop of the Paphos Metropolis, as he considers the decisions taken against him to be unlawful.
According to the SPJ in Greece, Metropolitan Tychicus has already sent a letter to this effect to the synodal hierarchs of the Church of Cyprus, notifying them of his intention to defend his rights in the legal field. The move comes against the backdrop of the Holy Synod meeting held on Thursday, January 8. During the meeting, the former Metropolitan of Paphos was banned from ministry, confirming previous decisions to depose him.
It later became known that the Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus has clearly defined the conditions under which the ecclesiastical penalty imposed on the deposed Metropolitan of Paphos Tihikos can be lifted. These conditions require him to take concrete and tangible actions concerning his attitude towards the Church and the Holy Canons.
