Britain sees record growth in Bible sales and interest in Christianity among young people

A record 6.3 million Bibles were sold in the UK in 2025, the highest number ever recorded. This significant growth is accompanied by an increase in church attendance, especially among the younger generation, who, according to experts, are beginning to see Christianity as a “countercultural force” against the backdrop of world change.

According to Blagovest-info.ru with reference to TASS, The Guardian newspaper and the SPCK Group publishing house, sales of Bibles in 2025 increased by 134% compared to 2019. Such data indicate a revival of interest in religious literature in the country.

In addition to the increase in sales, an increase in the number of churchgoers has been recorded. Church attendance increased by 50% compared to 2018. The publication emphasizes that the main contribution to this increase was made by young parishioners. In particular, while in 2018 only 4% of 18 to 24 year olds in England and Wales attended church monthly, by 2024 this figure had risen to 16%.

SPCK Group chief executive Sam Richardson attributes this trend to the fact that young people have come to see Christianity as a “counter-cultural force”. “Atheism used to be seen as rebellious behavior,” he stressed. – Now it’s the opposite. The younger generation is more interested in practicing Christianity.” According to Richardson, the reason for this interest is “global political and social changes and the development of artificial intelligence”, which make young people look for new reference points.

Recall, earlier we reported that a new sociological study in the United States revealed growing contradictions in the views of Americans on the Bible and the foundations of the Christian faith. According to the results, almost half of the respondents consider the Holy Scripture a collection of myths, not the Word of God. At the same time, a significant proportion of respondents also doubt the divinity of Jesus Christ, although they recognize the Bible as an authoritative guide to life.
