The British Council is investing 2 million pounds in the development of cultural cooperation with Ukraine

The British Council has announced that it will allocate 2 million pounds sterling over a three-year period to support Ukrainian cultural initiatives. This funding will form the basis of a new fund aimed at strengthening the partnership between the two countries and implementing the strategic objectives of the Ukrainian-British Cultural Commission.

According to and the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture, the decision was announced on September 15 in London during a meeting between representatives of relevant agencies from Ukraine and the United Kingdom. The newly established fund is designed to provide long-term support to Ukrainian organizations and professionals, fostering ties between museums, theaters, galleries, and other institutions from 2027 to 2030.

The new program focuses on several critical areas, including joint coproductions, fostering collaboration between the creative sectors, and, most importantly, the protection and restoration of Ukraine’s cultural heritage. These measures are intended to counter attempts to destroy national identity amid ongoing Russian aggression, which, according to official data, has damaged or destroyed thousands of cultural sites and heritage monuments.

Tetyana Berezhna, Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy and Minister of Culture of Ukraine, emphasized that this investment is an important contribution to the sustainability of Ukraine’s cultural sector. For his part, Richard Garrett, the incoming head of the British Council’s office in Ukraine, noted that this fund will provide practical tools for deepening the ties that the British Council has been actively developing in the country for nearly 35 years.
