Ternopil region authorities transferred another religious property to the UGCC ownership

While a wave of expropriation of church property from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is taking place across the country, in Halychchyna local authorities are handing over another real estate to Ukrainian Greek Catholics. In Ternopil region, the historical complex of the Bernardine monastery of the XVII-XVIII centuries was transferred to the local community of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. The decision on the gratuitous transfer for 10 years was made by the Ternopil Regional Military Administration after coordination with the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine.

As ZAXID.NET reports, the head of the Ternopil Regional Administration Taras Pastukh solemnly handed over a certificate for the right to use the complex to representatives of the UGCC. The Ternopil Regional Military Administration emphasized that the transfer of the monastery complex is an example of a balanced decision that combines state responsibility, the interests of the community and the preservation of national heritage. “Ternopil Regional Military Administration will continue to work to ensure that the historical objects of the region do not fall into disrepair, but get a new life and serve the people,” – said the administration.

Recall that earlier the Ternopil Regional Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation into the expropriation in favor of the state of a land plot of 12 hectares on which the monastery complex of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church – Holy Assumption Pochaev Lavra is located. In the opinion of the prosecutor’s office, the transfer of the land to the monastery was carried out in violation of the law, in connection with which the agency is preparing a lawsuit.
