"Shalom, Orthodox!": DESS congratulated Ukrainians on the Jewish holiday of Passover

on April 1, 2026, the website of the State Service of Ukraine for Ethno-politics and Freedom of Conscience (DESS) published a congratulatory message to Ukrainians on the Jewish holiday of Passover. The DESS believes that “in the current realities” this day acquires a special meaning for Ukrainians, becoming “a symbol of steadfastness of spirit and unshakable faith in victory over difficulties”.
According to the State Service of Ukraine on Ethno-politics and Freedom of Conscience (DESS), Pesach reminds of the importance of personal “exodus from Egypt ” – overcoming pain, disappointments and losses for the sake of gaining inner freedom and peace.
The official address emphasizes that today Pesach is “more relevant than ever”: it encourages everyone to find the strength not to stop, even if the journey seems too long. Faith and support of loved ones remain the main reference points that help to overcome any trials. The holiday unites people in the pursuit of life, where harmony and true will prevail.
Earlier the State Service of Ukraine on Ethno-politics and Freedom of Conscience (DESS) officially congratulated Ukrainian Muslims on the advent of the holy month of Ramadan, emphasizing their unwavering faith and steadfastness in the face of military trials. The agency expressed its deep hope for the early advent of peace, when prayers can be freely heard in every mosque in the country.
At the same time, the DESS decided not to congratulate Orthodox Christians, who represent the majority of Ukraine’s population, on the beginning of Lent, which this year began on February 22.
