on May 1, 2026, representatives of the territorial acquisition center (TAC) detained Archimandrite Theophilus (Koshovenko), a resident of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, in Kiev. According to the SPJ portal, the incident took place during the daytime in the central part of the capital.
According to the sources of the publication, the detention of the clergyman happened around 16:00 on Lesya Ukrainka Boulevard. At that moment Archimandrite Theophilus was on his way to visit his elderly spiritual daughter, who is one of his parishioners.
We shall remind you that on April 27, 2026 in Chernivtsi after a mass protest of believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Archimandrite Sergiy, a resident of the Banchen Monastery, who had been previously detained by the staff of the Territorial Center of Completion (TCC), was released. The clergyman was released thanks to the intervention of the hierarch of the UOC, Metropolitan Longin (Zhar) of Banchensk. The bishop brought the archimandrite’s adopted son, who is under guardianship due to a severe disability, under the walls of the TCC.
