In Lviv, representatives of the OCU, UGCC and Muslim community held a solidarity rally after an attempted arson attack on a mosque

Lviv hosted an interfaith solidarity event aimed at strengthening the unity of Ukrainian society after the recent incident of an attempted arson attack on a mosque. According to Ukrinform, the event, which took place on May 8, 2026, was attended by leaders of the Crimean Tatar people, the Grand Mufti of Crimea, representatives of the Christian clergy and local authorities.

During the meeting, the leader of the Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Dzhemilev called the act of vandalism a deliberate provocation aimed at destabilizing the internal situation in the country. According to him, attempts to undermine the unity of the Ukrainian people are doomed to failure, as evidenced by the rapid response of civil society and human rights activists.

The Supreme Mufti of Crimea Aider Rustemov informed the participants about the investigation, noting that the suspect in the crime had already been detained. According to the investigation, a «Russian trace» was found in the actions of the attacker. UGCC hieromonk Justin Boyko emphasized the importance of maintaining peace between faiths, saying that any desecration of a church is a direct blow to the spiritual values of the entire society.

OCU cleric Mykhailo Sadovsky in his speech called for the active development of a «cultural dialogue» to eradicate manifestations of hatred. The event ended with a joint prayer by representatives of different religious communities, which became a symbol of interreligious harmony in Lviv.
