In Nigeria, Islamists have carried out a series of bloody attacks on Christian communities in Kaduna state

Nigeria’s Kaduna state has been the site of new terrorist attacks that have killed at least five Christians and kidnapped or injured dozens. Local clergy are calling on authorities to immediately step up security measures to protect civilians from increased attacks by Islamist militants.
According to EWTN news, the latest incident occurred on the night of May 21, 2026 in the Kurmin Bongo district. Militants attacked worshippers, killing five people and capturing ten others. Two hostages escaped thanks to the intervention of local self-defense units. The Catholic Archdiocese of Kaduna in an official letter condemned the aggression against the communities under the pastoral care of St. Peter and St. Paul Parish.
The Chancellor of the Archdiocese, Christian Okevu Emmanuel, said the incident was part of a wider wave of violence. Earlier, on March 2, one person was killed and eight abducted (two of whom later died in captivity) in the Kasaru-B settlement. on May 1, in Sabon Gari, two were injured, and of the ten abducted, one was killed by the kidnappers. These systematic attacks are of deep concern to religious leaders in the region.
The situation of mass violence in Nigeria has worsened since 2009, when the terrorist group Boko Haram intensified in the country. Along with them, armed Fulani herdsmen have also attacked religious communities. Despite law enforcement efforts, including the recent apprehension of 33 militants, communities continue to remain in the extremists’ crosshairs
