In Nigeria, militants killed more than 20 Christians during an attack on a village in Plateau State

Another attack on a Christian community has occurred in central Nigeria: On the night of June 22, 2026, armed Islamists attacked the village of Kavel in Plateau State, killing more than 20 people and wounding dozens. According to a source, the tragedy was the latest in a series of attacks in Bokkos District.
According to the Christian Daily, militants stormed the village around 2 a.m. and opened fire on the sleeping residents. The attack targeted a peaceful settlement inhabited by members of the Christian community.
According to local residents, they immediately called the police and the military for help after the attack began. However, eyewitnesses claim that security forces did not arrive at the village until after dawn. Survivors stated that the authorities paid more attention to removing the bodies of the deceased than to protecting those who remained in danger.
Representatives of the affected community called the authorities’ response “unacceptable” and urged the government to ensure that the victims could be buried with dignity and to take measures to protect the civilian population. The attack in Kawele is seen as part of a broader wave of violence against Christians in the region.
Nigeria remains one of the most dangerous countries for Christians. According to experts, radical groups, including Fulani militants, are deliberately targeting Christian communities, their lands, and symbols of religious identity in an effort to establish control over territories and impose Islam on the local population.
