The Northern Economic Court of Appeals has suspended proceedings in the case of the Lower Lavra

The Northern Economic Court of Appeal of Ukraine has ruled to suspend proceedings in the case concerning the use of the Lower Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. This decision was issued on June 25, 2026, after the court granted a corresponding motion filed by representatives of the monastery. This was reported by the monastery’s attorney, Archpriest Nikita Chekman, on his Telegram channel.
According to a statement by the monastery’s attorney, Archpriest Nikita Chekman, the court proceedings will resume only after the court of first instance issues a verdict in a related case that is critical to this dispute. The lawyer expressed his gratitude to the court for this procedural step and noted that, at present, the monastic community continues to observe monastic obedience as usual.
As a reminder, earlier, OCU cleric Georgy Kovalenko commented on the current situation surrounding the eviction of monks of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church from the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, emphasizing that legal proceedings were being deliberately delayed. According to Kovalenko, the monastic community of the UOC should be dealt with “under martial law,” and only then should the legality of such a decision be examined in court.
